Tubing inner diameter size is critical for assuring a good seal on fittings and/or to prevent end splitting if too small. This 5/16” gauge was designed and is used by the proctor Maple Research Center to verify tubing size prior to installing in the sugar bush.

Chamfered Maple Tree Tapping Bit
This innovative chamfered drill bit provides a 45-degree lead-in that assists in guiding spouts into
the drilled hole when tapping. The amount of chamfer can be controlled by the amount of pressure applied after the 2” hole is drilled. The chamfered bit can also be used on thick bark trees to
avoid chipping bark away prior to drilling to assure a good seat with the spout. Available in both
5/16” and 1/4” sizes.
